Introduction :
Eliminating paperwork in hospitals is a demanding task. Several internet and software services growing was seen, therefore paperless workplaces are also becoming a huge trendsetter. On the other hand, human errors and misinterpretations of illegible handwriting were also identified in Day Surgery Centre (DSC). Consequently, “Going paperless” electronic record project was implemented.
Objectives :
To increase workflow efficiency
To eliminate manual tasks and human errors
To make documentation and information sharing easier
To promote environment-friendly workplace
Methodology :
The project implemented in May 2020. Our team decided to make the move from paper to paperless by the following steps.
1. Outline and estimate the amount of paperwork involved.
2. Convert the documents from paper to digital. (google Excel format)
3. Provide staff training and standardize the documentation.
4. Evaluate and identify opportunities for more efficiency.
Result & Outcome :
10 DSC staffs (including nursing, supporting and clerical staffs) were recruited for the evaluation. 90% staff satisfied with the computerized record, agreed the recordwas user friendly and easy to access. They are willing to contribute to the environment-friendly project.
Conclusion
The “Going paperless” electronic record project can increase workflow efficiency and time saving. Manual tasks and human errors can be eliminated. Staff satisfy with the ease of information access. Eventually, friendly environment can be promoted.
