Introduction :
Currently in Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), print-out slides are used by physiotherapists to deliver post-natal class on exercise and body care. Due to the limitation of space and time, demonstration of exercise to patients is not feasible. Updates and amendments of class content also require extra cost of time and paper materials. To enhance patients’ understanding of exercises and improve the cost-effectiveness of information processing, a power-point file with animation presented through iPad is proposed.
Objectives :
(1)To enhance physiotherapy exercise education in post-natal ward by use of electronic education materials.

(2)To promote the utilization of iPad for delivering physiotherapy services.
Methodology :
The originally adopted print-out slides for post-natal exercise talk were transformed into a power-point file. The exercises were captured and integrated as animated pictures. An iPad was used to present the animated power-point supplemented with explanation of physiotherapist.

Meanwhile, exercise pamphlets would be given to patients. To evaluate the effectiveness of this transformation, it was proposed to conduct patient satisfaction questionnaire on the following aspects: (1) effectiveness of the post-natal class to enhance the knowledge of exercises and body care, (2) clarity of content covered, (3) duration of the class, (4) clearness of explanation by physiotherapists and (5) effectiveness of iPad compared to traditional pamphlets on presentation of class content.
Result & Outcome :
Review of current post-natal class content was done in December 2020. A new power-point file with animated pictures was established in early Jan 2021. A trial run of the post-natal class to peer colleagues was done. According to staff, an electronic file with animation provides more lively and clearer demonstration of exercise. It also allows timely updates of information without consuming additional papers.

The proposed commencement date of the above mentioned plan would be in late Jan 2021. Questionnaires will be collected from mothers who have attended the class. Feedback obtained in the first three months will be analyzed preliminarily.

In the future, it is suggested to implement electronic presentation in antenatal class as well. For patients’ convenience, retrieval of class contents by QR code is also suggested.
