Introduction :
According to WHO 2018, Falls are the second leading cause of accident or unintentional injury deaths worldwide. Each year an estimated 646000 individuals die from falls globally, and 37.3 million falls that are severe enough to require medical attention occur each year. The largest morbidity occurs in people aged 65 years or older. To recognize this critical issue, OLMH has declared 9 September to 13 September 2019 as Fall Prevention Awareness Week, while 10 September as Fall Prevention Awareness Day
Objectives :
Healthcare workers agreed the Fall Prevention Awareness Day can enhance their awareness on fall prevention.
Methodology :
To make a "STAND" in Fall Prevention Awareness Day. 1.Survey: Survey on healthcare workers' preception and attitudes towards Fall Prevention Awarenress. 2.Team Approach: Fall prevention is a team effort, Physiotherapist and Occupational therapist are the core parties and should be invited to participate in the event. 3.Award: At the Fall Prevention Awareness Day, certificates of appreciation on The Best of Fall Patrol Round Ambassador and gifts had been presented to HCA/PCAs in recognition of their impressive performance in the Fall Patrol Round. 4.Noise: the Fall Awareness Day should attract a lot of interest or attention from staff, and the attention received as a result of the activities. 5.Demonstration: Scenarios based demonstration by different parties. Role plays and Scenarios involve giving audiences a problem statements or situations, and asking them to give solutions accordingly. The interaction among actors and audiences can enhance their awareness on fall prevention.
Result & Outcome :
More than 95% Healthcare workers agreed the Fall Prevention Awareness Day can enhance their awareness on fall prevention. Survey on healthcare workers’ preception and attitudes towards Fall Prevention Awarenress Day was conducted to review the effectiveness. A total 136 survey forms were distributed with 125 copies returned and completed (91.9% response rate). 99.2%of respondents who reported that the Fall Prevention Awareness Day can raise the fall awareness among healthcare workers. 98.53% of respondents who reported that healthcare workers can raise the fall awareness and learn more strategies through the scenarios-based demonstration. 100% of respondents who reported that they satisfied with Fall Prevention Awareness Day as a whole.
