Introduction :
The HKCH In-Patient Wi-Fi service launched by IT department at 2019 1Q.
It is the first Wi-Fi service at HA hospital to provide full in-patient area coverage.
Objectives :
To help patient stay connected with their life beyond the hospital, HKCH has Internet access in inpatient public area.
Children in the hospital can easily stay in touch with their peers, schools and family.
Encouraging patients to carry on with their lives and gives them a sense of being able to stay connected.
Methodology :
265 access points was setup to provide full Wi-Fi coverage for In-Patient area
1Gbps internet bandwidth located at HKCH Data Centre to support this service
Wi-Fi account are created for patient upon arrival at Tower B G/F Admission Counter
Each account can support up to 2 concurrent users.
A 60-minutes internet session will be provided each time.
Result & Outcome :
As at December 2020, Wi-Fi service had been provided to ~17,000 in-patient cases
Received positive feedback from patients and their carers.
The Wi-Fi service is essential to facilitate online learning and teaching during COVID era.
The use of Zoom for patient interview especially when patient being isolated.
