Introduction :
The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic causes stressful for people and influence one’s psychological health, which including fear, anxiety, insomnia, loneliness or panic. During COVID-19 pandemic, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)Course had been suspended. In order to prevent further severity of symptoms and empower citizen’s coping skills towards this unexpected crisis situation, the new project “Community Serenity Project” by Zoom had been created by Kwai Tsing Safety City and Health Association together with Mental Health First Aid Course Instructor of Kwai Chung Hospital in 2020.
Objectives :
To increase the mental health literacy and promote mental wellness in the community
Methodology :
The 10-15 participants, who are living in Kwai Tsing District and over 18 years old, will be recruited. The participants must complete MHFA course and obtain certificate before. The four sessions will be offered and lasts for 2 hours per session via zoom. The instructor is qualified MHFA Course instructor and teaches over 30 classes. The content of four sessions includes introduction of new project and its requirement, management of depression, management of anxiety disorder and new mental health first aid knowledge and community resources. After the end of session, the questionnaire will be delivered for participants for project evaluation.
Result & Outcome :
Ten citizens had been recruited (M=3, F=7, Age Mean: 35). They had completed Mental Health First Aid Standard Course within five years. Of 100% attendance was recorded in consecutive 4 sessions. The result was shown that of 89% respondents had confidence to help people in need. Of 100% respondents increased the knowledge of depression and anxiety. Of 88% respondents recognized the effectiveness of this project via zoom. Of 100% respondents acquired the new community resources and were willing to introduce to people in need.
