Introduction :
Hospital acquired pressure injury is commonly developed among immobility and fragile patients. It impacts on their quality of life, increase morbidity and mortality. Most pressure injury are preventable. Health care staff and caregivers play a key role on prevention of pressure injury. Actually, the caseloads in our department, most of the chronic ventilator and respiratory medical cases are bedridden and dependent. There is an increasing trend of the incidence rate in the year of 2018. Therefore, our unit formed a stop pressure injury prevention team to implement the stop pressure injury bundle care and to strengthen the preventive intervention.
Objectives :
-To enhance staffs’ knowledge on prevention and management of pressure injury. -To engage patients’ families/caregivers on the prevention of pressure injury. -To reinforce existing intervention for pressure injury prevention. -To reduce hospital acquired pressure injury.
Methodology :
-The targets of recipients include all nurses, supporting staff and family caregivers in DTBC. -Group tutorials are provided to enhance etiology, prevention and management, and selection of dressing material for health care staff. -Workshop and scenario stimulation training for the health care staff. -Pre & posttests including knowledge, prevention measures and dressing materials are conducted. -Group tutorials and leaflets are provided to families and caregivers.
Result & Outcome :
-Decrease hospital acquired pressure injury by 30% -All nurses of department well known existing intervention for pressure injury prevention. -Increase the marks of pre and post test by 30%of staff including nurses and health care assistants.
There are 15 questions in the questionnaire. It is designed to evaluate the knowledge on etiology, prevention and management, and selection of dressing materials for whom received the relevant education. 42 nurses have responded to the questionnaire in pre-test and post-test, whose score in the questionnaire are 53.2% and 97.1% respectively. In addition, 22 supporting staff have completed the tutorial class in pre-test and post-test. Their score in the questionnaire are 61.9% and 91.3% in the pre-test and post-test respectively. For families/caregivers, they have completed an evaluation form after the tutorials. The satisfaction rate of them is 100%. Compared with year 2018 and 2019, the number of pressure injury after admission was seen a 80% drop(including stage 1 Pressure injury) after Stop pressure injury bundles project was launched.
