Introduction :
Security Guards patrol carpark and other hospital areas every day. They log car plate numbers or parking permits for usage analysis and spotting out suspicious vehicles or improper parking to ensure the proper use of carpark resources.
Objectives :
(1) To digitalize parking permit registration and patrol report with simple mobile application; (2) To improve efficiency and accuracy of security patrols; (3) To save paper use and storage space for paper records
Methodology :
QR codes were added to all parking permits. The QR codes store basic information such as car plate numbers and numbers, types and special restrictions of parking permit. A mobile application was developed for recording QR codes and taking pictures of improperly parked vehicles. The mobile application decodes the QR codes and records the appearance of vehicles with time-stamped data. A smartphone was assigned to Security Department for patrol and communication.
Result & Outcome :
Security patrol records have been digitalized in spreadsheet format since April 2019. Mobile application decodes information of parking permit accurately and stores time-stamped data. Time required for each patrol was reduced by 10 to 20 minutes and approximately 40 to 80 minutes of manpower can be saved every day. Approximate 730 sheets of paper can be saved every year by digitalized records. In addition, security patrols can be conveniently carried out by Security Guards.
The electronic parking permit registration was effective in reducing manpower for security patrols, generating digital records for usage analysis and saving paper and storage space. This pilot test for QR code application was successful and may be converted to security watchman tour or facility inspection.
