Introduction :
Supporting staff are an essential member of a clinical working team. Department is committed to provide a quality on job training to them. However due to their high turnover rate, department is always facing the pressure to use extra time to train new comers. The training content and quality of training is also not standardized.
Objectives :
To develop a structured supporting staff training and evaluation set with the use of IT to reduce training time and to ensure training quality.
Methodology :
Firstly, we developed a knowledge checklist with items based either on 1. equipment related, 2. Non-equipment related or 3. Patient care related procedures. Items of checklist with steps of training procedures were clearly written and upload to shared folder. Relevant training procedures were videotaped with QR coding and attached to the check list items. Training evaluation forms were uploaded as e forms as well. Trainers were assigned to staff under training. They would provide training according to the related listed items. Trainee could refer back to the training video through QR code for familiarization of procedures. Training evaluation would be be done via e form by trainer and access mutually through shared folder so that the trainee would know about their training performance and progression.
Result & Outcome :
In 2019, 5 supporting staff of different ranks were trained in Physiotherapy Department of DKCH. All trainers and trainees were satisfied with this structured and standardized training method. Trainers reported a reduce time spent in training with trainee achieving satisfactory performance in all training items. Communication as relationship between trainers and trainee were improved as well. Results support the use of this training methods through use of IT in our department in future.
