Introduction :
Traditional whiteboard was commonly used in clinical wards for communication. However, it may lead to misunderstanding of information due to risk of transcription errors and hard-to-read handwriting. In order to reduce misunderstanding and avoid duplication of work, a customizable e-Whiteboard was developed and the information could be generated from Patient Clinical Handover System (PCHOS) automatically.
Objectives :
To enhance communication and quality of care through application of e-Whiteboard in neurosurgery for the purpose of efficient operational workflow and consistency of care.
Methodology :
The e-Whiteboard was hyperlinked in all computers with Clinical Management Systems and PCHOS for quick access. Multiple layouts were designed for showing different kinds of information such as nursing activities, key performance index and posters sharing. It offered updated daily care information clearly including risk management on high fall risk cases, high risk of pressure injury cases, and infection precaution cases for all disciplines. A cross-sectional study with Staff Evaluation Form on e-Whiteboard was designed with numeric scale questions from 1 to 6 in which ‘1’ was indicated as strongly disagree and ‘6’ as strongly agree. It was collected from 35 nursing staff in the department during the period of 1st September 2019 to 15th September 2019. The satisfactory rate was calculated.
Result & Outcome :
The response rate was 100%. The satisfactory rate on the application of e-Whiteboard was 92.15%. 94.29% of staff agreed the information in e-Whiteboard could provide quick access to up-to-date information of patient care, which facilitated performing daily patient care effectively and efficiently.
