Introduction :
Recently, there had been increasing emphasis on improving physical health care of people with mental illnesses. Appropriate wound care for those users is one of the concerns. Therefore, an education workshop which was arranged, aimed at improving knowledge and skill of psychiatry nursing staff on basic wound care management.
Objectives :
- To provide updated knowledge on basic wound care to psychiatry
nurses.
- To enhance the competency of wound care of psychiatry nurses.
Methodology :
An educational talk and skill workshop were conducted on the captioned topic. The wound assessment, wound documentation, wound bed preparation and wound care product selection were covered. The pre and post -test questionnaire were used to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of the talk. Also the evaluation forms were given to collect the feedback from the participants.
Result & Outcome :
A total of 60 nursing staff attended the talk. The return rate was of questionnaire is 100%. Most of the respondents agreed that the workshop achieved its stated objectives and the mean score was 4.5 (Max score was 5). They also found the workshop is useful and the mean score was 4.6. 92% of the respondents agreed and strongly agreed that the workshop could enhance their competency in handling wound care in practice. Besides, respondents required duration of the workshop and more practical hours.
