Introduction :
Health promotion is important in primary healthcare. Community Health Project is a way to promote health. It provides a chance for health care professionals to deliver health information to residents of the community, provides opportunities for people to take an active part to feedback and voice out their needs and concerns about their health, and helps to enhance the relationship between health care providers and the residents. Different health promotion activities had been done in urban area, but not often so in rural areas such as the outlying islands. Nonetheless the health of the outlying islanders is equally important as other people in Hong Kong. Thus, our Department had organized two Community Health Projects in Peng Chau (PC) and North Lamma (NL) in October and November 2019 respectively.
Objectives :
To evaluate the results of the two Community Health Projects held in PC and NL.
Methodology :
Upon decided in our Department to carry out the Projects, an organizing team was established. Contents of the Projects include introduction of General Outpatient Clinic services in PC and NL, Health talk (三高/無煙健康生活), questions and answers, simple health checks, souvenir and health information distribution to participants. The Projects were promoted to local residents by posters in public areas, introducing to patients by clinic staff, and with the support from Rural Committees and District Councillors. The Projects were held in sport centre or outdoor playground. Questionnaires were distributed to all participants at the end of the activities.
Result & Outcome :
There were about 50 participants in both PC and NL. Majority of participants (≧93%) were satisfied with the Projects, and expecting similar activities again in their communities. The whole atmosphere was very good. All participants were very happy, interactive with a lot of communications and feedback. Healthy People, Happy Staff, Trusted by the Community is vision of the Hospital Authority. The two Community Health Projects were successful and had achieved their aims. Community health project can be regularly carried out for better health promotion.
