Introduction :
In our society, we are always reticent and raise complaints instead of expressing gratitude. Positive working environment can increase productivity and engagement, higher the loyalty and satisfaction. Besides, it enhances better safety records and fewer accidents. It also can make the staffs likely to stay. The program is designed to promote the praising culture in the departments.
Objectives :
Cultivate the caring culture and enhance the staff recognitions.
Methodology :
Form a Work Group

Ward manager and advanced practice nurses form a work group to manage the program. The participant inclusion criteria are all qualified nurses, stewards and health care assistances. It will be piloted in Orthopaedic ward, Community Psychiatric Unit, Renal ward, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Gynecology ward.



Monthly Star Program and Praise Wall

The project is conducted as “Monthly Star Program”. Participants are encouraged to praise others by their working performance, attitude, hard working or contributions.

There are two ways to implement the program. One is hanging a “Praise Wall” in the staff common area for the participants to put on the notes for praising each other. The other one is creating an icon “Praise Corner” on the department website for the same purpose.



Pre and Post Questionnaires

A five questions questionnaire is designed for the pre and post assessment to measure the outcome of the project.
Result & Outcome :
The program was successfully implemented since November, 2019 in five selected clinically units. There have received more than 110 praise notes put in our Praise Wall or Praise Corner. Pre-assessment with five rating questions was performed with total 120 questionnaires were collected. The mean score represents the job satisfactory level of staff towards the working culture and recognition in their workplace was measured. Post-assessment was preliminary collected 55 questionnaires from Gynecology Ward and Renal Ward. The Pre-mean score is 2.87, then Post-mean score increased to 3.69 in the same population group of total 5 marks. These showed the effect was positive. Moreover, all colleagues expressed that they received touch and love through the program. Conclusion Cultivate the caring culture can enhance the staff recognition.
