Introduction :
Doing clinical research in mainland is difficult. Papers with a total of 2 pages in Chinese, are commonly seen. People knowing literature appraisal are few. Dare to do a clinical research and get published in English journals are even less. However, volunteer works have been done with success! A roadmap is constructed and followed with positive response.
Objectives :
There are two objectives. First is to encourage people in mainland, to know the tools to appraise articles. Secondly they should be encouraged to conduct and publish their own trials in English. A roadmap is thus formulated.
Methodology :
Roadmap:

Step 1 is to have a bilingual core material. A series of original articles are published bimonthly in “实用休克杂志” “Journal of Practical Shock” in mainland. Topics include simple statistics, RCT, Diagnostic test, meta-analysis, non-inferiority trials, prognosis and harm articles, study designs, how to do a study, what is evidence-based practice, and knowledge translation. A total of 7 chapters are published online, and downloadable for free. Materials are presented in a user-friendly manner, with mnemonics and shortcuts.
Step 2 is to “train the trainers”. Local champions are invited to attend yearly Asian Pacific EBMN Conference and Workshop, held in Singapore. There is Putonghua teaching, under special request. They will become local trainers to teach EBM.
Step 3 is to start “2 days small group tutorials” at different provinces. We know that didactic lecture alone, is not enough. People must learn literature appraisal by small group tutorials, preferably one teacher: 10 students.
Step 4 is to form a research platform to assist local people doing their own clinical researches, with statisticians’ support and experts’ opinions.
Result & Outcome :
Core manual for teaching has already been successfully published online with bilingual translations. Now people can download for free and pre-read the manual before they come to small group tutorials. Local champions have joined the yearly Singapore APEBMN conference and Workshop for 2 years. They will join international tutors to conduct local workshops in mainland. It is expected that 2 days EBM workshops will be conducted in a couple of years. International tutors come from Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Lessons will be in Putonghua. With more and more people knowing how to appraise articles, more and more original trials will follow.
