Introduction :
There has eleven Advanced Nursing Standards for O&T which developed by Specialty Advisory Groups (SAG) and can be retrieved through HA intranet as text form. These standards are serving as a guide to nurses in delivering quality patient care and facilitating nurses’ competency and compliance.
A working group had been formed in PYNEH O&T Department since 2018 which recruited eleven Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) who are ideally positioned in mastering specialty knowledge and refining clinical practice. They were taking the leading role on a new project that had transformed the eleven Advance Nursing Standards from text form into audio-visual materials and shared to nurses through Browser-based QR codes. This initiative has facilitated frontline nurses to perceive the knowledge and skill in vibrant way that has also aligned quality and safety clinical nursing practice.
Objectives :
1. Upkeep professional standard and align O&T clinical nursing practice
2. Nourish middle managers (APNs) as leader of structural teaching and quality program
3. Team building & staff engagement
4. Promote creativity and influence organization by using a variety of techniques; think broadly and outside traditional boundaries
Methodology :
Working Group of the project was formed in June 2018 and total 12 APNs had participated in the project. 1 APN was assigned as the project coordinator and the other 11 APNs each was designated to own one of the eleven Advanced Nursing Standards. Each APN had invited 4-6 colleagues to form a film crew to participate and responsible for the scenario designing; script writing and film editing. The related ‘standard owner’ then in turn be the coordinator for the designed video shooting. Project coordinator and ‘standard owners’ met periodically for problems shooting and responded to the given comments. They ensured all products were in line with compromised standard.
By 4Q 2019, 11 of Mini-Videos had been completed and circulated among staff. Designated topic(s) will be selected for conducting audit to ensure the compliance of nurses in the clinical practice. The standard-owner will become the audit facilitator to write the audit report and make recommendation for further improvement.
Result & Outcome :
During the process of preparation and production, the related APNs gained opportunity to lead and coordinate the activity so as to facilitate the leadership development. They demonstrated personal competency to influence others; established positive relationship with others; worked together towards a common goal and valued different ideas. It is also a precious opportunity for them to show their synergy to bring constructive solutions and ideas to go through challenges. The working group members had transformed the standards from text form into audio-visual materials and shared to nurses through Browser-based QR code which effectively convenience staff to search nursing standards in anytime and anywhere.
Eventually, the correlated APNs and their teammates hold the ownership of the ‘end-products’ that in turn professional satisfactory was gained. Moreover, department had conducted audits on selected nursing standards which had gained 100% compliance rate. Their works is appreciated and recognized by SAG(O&T). For the future development, those furnished audio-visual educational materials will be shared to other O&T Department under HA.
