Introduction: :
The Department of Family Medicine and Primary Health Care, Kowloon West Cluster, Hospital Authority (KWCFM, HA) is committed to enhancement of staff healthiness and happiness, as well as a trustworthiness atmosphere among staff and patients with the effort of Staff Engagement and Wellness Team, comprising of colleagues from the Staff Engagement Team, Staff Welfare and Recreation Team and the Department Newsletter “eNews+” Editorial Board, with a wide mix of staff groups of KWCFM including medical, nursing and allied health members. With the team motto of “serve with respect and trust”, we are serving over 500 staff members of 16 General Out-patient Clinics (GOPCs) in KWCFM from multi-dimensional staff wellness perspectives so as to reinforce our commitment, morale and job satisfaction.
Objectives: :
Our team enhances staff engagement and wellness with the following key aspects: “my job is meaningful”; “my voice can be heard”; “someone cares about me”
Methodology: :
1) Build and share appreciation culture 2) Better communicate with staff: intra-departmental and inter-clinic communications 3) Team building 4) Enhance physical wellbeing 5) Promote psychological wellbeing
Result & Outcome: :
Colleagues were engaged through various activities and campaigns. For staff recognition, patient appreciation booths, cheering video, appreciation cards on “World Family Doctor Day”, “International Nurses Day” and posting patient appreciation letters to department’s web for sharing throughout the year were conducted. Appreciations compiled in video format were uploaded to HA channel with over 12,000 viewers and much positive responses from clinic staff. Various channels were created to increase department’s transparency and mutual understanding, such as quarterly newsletter named “eNews+”, annual staff forum and regular staff opinion surveys, to name a few. Our team devoted much effort in team building by producing clinic’s own calendar using clinic group photos supported by our photography team, and large scale team building workshops for all staff groups. In order to promote staff’s physical wellbeing, we organized courses and interest classes for staff such as Chinese Medicine workshop, Physiotherapy class, Occupational Therapy class, Podiatry feet care workshop and Yoga group with over a hundred attendances. We also held activities enhancing psychological well-being like mindfulness workshop, soul café and aroma class. To develop more resilience and a positive attitude, our team rode on the opportunity of World Vision’s “skips a meal for charity”. With the motto of “Serve with Respect and Trust”, we treasure each and every staff, in line with the vision of HA: “Healthy People, Happy Staff, Trusted by the Community”. Our team had great honour to receive the 2019/2020 Outstanding Team Award of Yan Chai Hospital.
