Dr Michael Wong received his medical degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and subsequently undertook dual specialist training in clinical haematology and haematopathology. During his service as a pathologist, Dr Wong developed a special interest in the application of flow cytometry in the diagnosis of haematological diseases and the use of Lean Six Sigma in optimising laboratory workflow. Dr Wong is currently the Chief Manager of the Hospital Authority Kowloon West Cluster, Deputy Hospital Chief Executive (Operation) of Princess Margaret Hospital, and Deputy Hospital Chief Executive of North Lantau Hospital (NLTH). In the latter role, Dr Wong has led NLTH to complete the commissioning of clinical services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his team set up a temporary test centre at NLTH within a day and commissioned the NLTH Hong Kong Infection Control Centre (HKICC) within an extremely tight schedule. HKICC successfully admitted the first patient on the planned date, just five weeks after the handover. Dr Wong is currently serving as a council member for the Hong Kong College of Pathologists and as treasurer for the Hong Kong Society of Myeloma. He has also served at various positions in the Hong Kong Society of Haematology for many years.
