Introduction: :
A new acute surgical ward was set up in AHNH from October 2018. As 20 new graduated registered and enrolled nurses were recruited hence a potential risk on safety & quality of service care so an exposure program for them to PWH surgical ward was designed with aims to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Objectives: :
1. To ensure patients safety and quality of nursing care 2. To share clinical information and communication between nurses 3. To promote education among nurses
Methodology: :
With the help from Surgery of Prince of Wales, a clinical attachment was arranged, staff could learn to use the surgical materials and familiar with model of surgical care. Continuous monitoring was arranged by project leader and local hospital preceptor in the period of clinical practicum. A tailor made logbook was designed to serve as a guide to ensure the surgical competency.
Result & Outcome: :
With the help from Surgery of PWH, a clinical attachment was arranged, staff could learn to use the surgical materials and familiar with model of surgical care. The post Exposure Program survey were distributed to 20 nursing staffs with 100% returned rate. All the preceptors appreciated the learners were helpful and eager to learn. Logbook was signed by PWH Ward 8A and 8B preceptors respectively. All preceptors appreciated the learner was helpful and eager to learn. The result of evaluation from learners shown the program was effectiveness on case management and clinical competence.
